What to Expect in Section 2
Section 2 is a talk by one speaker in an everyday social situation. It is often a public talk, where one person gives information to a group or audience.
You might hear information about a tour, event or public event.
You will need to understand key information, descriptions, directions and locations as the speaker talks.
Common question types include multiple choice, matching, table completion, and map or plan labelling.
Types of Public Talks
The speaker may be giving information in a range of different situations.
The topic can change, but you job is the same: follow the speaker and identify the important information.

Common Mistakes
Section 2 contains a lot of information, and the speaker may change or correct details as they talk. Small mistakes can easily cost you marks.
Pay particular attention to these common mistakes:

Read Ahead
Read the instructions and questions before recording starts. This helps you know what information to listen for.
Remember: Use the preparation time carefully. Look for key words and think about what you might hear.

Wait for the Answer
Don't choose an answer as soon as you hear something that matches an option. The speaker may mention other possibilities first.

Keep listening until you are sure. The first answer you hear may be a distractor.

Listen for Corrections
Speakers sometimes change or correct information as they talk. The correct answer may come after the first detail you hear.
Remember: Listen for words such as but, however, actually and instead - they can signal a change or correction.

Listen for the Same Meaning
The recording often expresses the same idea using different words from those in the question.
Remember: Don't wait for exactly the same words. Listen for paraphrases and the same meaning.

Keep Your Place
Follow the questions as the speaker moves through the information. If you miss one answer, keep listening and move on.
